In accordance to the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic “On provision of measurements unity” the follow items are of the competence of Kyrgyzstandard:

• interregional and interbranch coordination of activity on provision of measurements unity in the Kyrgyz Republic;
• installation of the rules of creation, assertion, storage and application of the measurement standards of magnitudes units;
• determination of general metrology requirements to means, methods and outcomes of measurements;
• realization of the state metrology monitoring and supervision;
• realization of monitoring behind observance of the international agreements of the Kyrgyz Republic conditions on recognizing outcomes of tests and calibrations of measurements means;
• manual with the State Metrology Service activity;
• realization of works on creation and application of the state and interstate standard exemplars of substances and materials structure and properties;
• participation in international organizations activity on sphere of provision of the measurements unity.

There are eight territorial centres for standardization and metrology in the Kyrgyzstandard system. The Republican Centre for Standardization and Metrology is the head centre and bears responsibility for creation and storage of the national standard units of measure, transfer of measure units from reference standards to the measurement standards of other centres and also executes tests, metrology certification and state tests of the measurement means.
