National institute of the standards and metrology of the Republic of Kyrgyzstan "Kyrgyzstandard" (NISM) acts as a National metrological institute.

The basic activities include:

­      Realization and dissemination of base and derived units of International System of Units (SI); development, maintenance and improvement of the national standards of physical quantities;

­      Rendering of verification (calibration) and measurement services to manufactures and organizations having different ownership on voluntary basis;

­      Establishment and development of national legal metrology system. The purposes of this system is to maintain traceability of measurement results, secure public interests and encourage fair competitiveness between vendors;

­      Type approval and metrological evaluation of measurement instrument; keeping of State Register of approved measurement instruments and referenced materials;

­      Participation in comparison of measurement standards on international, regional and national levels for the purpose of their technical maintenance and world-wide recognition of the resulting calibration and measurements certificates;

­      Development and evaluation of measurement procedures;

­      Research works in the field of metrology;

­      Participation in the activities of regional and international metrology organizations;

­      Participation in training and raising the level of the experts skill in metrology.

 

On international level NISM cooperate with:

- Interstate Council on standardization, metrology and certification;

- Interregional Association on standardization;

- International conference of measuring laboratories.
